Katherine G. Johnson Elementary gets official logo

As we get closer and closer to the completion of Katherine G. Johnson Elementary, we continue to reach new milestones. The school’s most recent milestone is the unveiling of a brand new logo, which was designed by our very own in-house graphic designer, Timra Knox!

The design incorporates a depiction of the moon with a rocket leaving lunar orbit on its return to Earth. Katherine G. Johnson was an extraordinary American mathematician who calculated and analyzed the flight paths of spacecraft during her more than three decades with the U.S. space program.

From the school colors to their mascot, “the Voyagers,” to an instructional exploration around STEAM and project-based learning, the school’s planning team and staff hope to capture the spirit of Katherine Johnson’s life into their vision of the school.

Katherine G. Johnson Elementary is scheduled to open its doors to students this fall.

Elementary #19 Update: Rainier Ridge at Lipoma Communities

In February 2019, the voters of the district approved a capital bond. Along with the construction of Katherine G. Johnson Elementary and other projects, it included the acquisition of land for and the construction of new schools to provide for needed student capacity at the elementary school level.

The School Board recently adopted a resolution to authorize the Superintendent to execute a real estate purchase and sale agreement for an elementary school site within Rainier Ridge at Lipoma Communities.

The District Administration determined that the approximate 1,700 unit residential development under construction, now known as Rainier Ridge at Lipoma Communities, located east of the intersection of 187th Street East and Meridian Avenue East, Puyallup, Washington, and within the boundaries of the district, has an appropriate location of sufficient acreage to accommodate an elementary school.
